Oceans of Opportunity

You Could Be Here!

01los-logoJoin us on the Royal Caribbean for a 5 day Eastern Caribbean Cruise from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on the Beautiful Liberty of the Seas ship. For our first evening, Saturday, we will have a Meet & Greet on the Lido Deck. Sunday, the first full day of our cruise and you will get to enjoy the conference while we drift off to sea. You will have the opportunity to learn practical skills and some of the latest information from our guest speakers! Monday morning we will be anchored at Belize City to enjoy all the lovely culture Belize has to offer. Gail Johnson will be treating us to a personal tour. Gail is a transplanted midwife who practiced for many years in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and also served on the Texas Midwifery Board, she now resides in Belize.

You don’t want to miss the next stop on Tuesday in Cozumel, Mexico. Choose a beach with soft white sand for relaxing or snorkel off a rockier vista. Wednesday will be another exciting day to enjoy learning with one another in our conference while at sea. Thursday we will back at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, hopefully a little more relaxed, a little more knowledgeable with new lifetime friends!

Also available at this conference will be the educators from Birth Emergency Skills Training (BEST). Midwives attending childbirth in homes and birth centers seldom encounter emergencies, but when crisis occurs, lives hang in the balance! It is difficult to remain proficient in skills so seldom practiced, yet pregnant women rely on the expertise of the provider in an emergency.  BEST offers skills stations for hands on experience. If you know any doulas this will be an excellent course for them. You never know when you may be faced with an unexpected fast birth.

This International Conference is open to anyone who works with new mothers in the field of birth, postpartum or breastfeeding. It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned midwife or a student just beginning your journey. The cruise however is open to anyone who would like to enjoy a fun filled week hanging out with birth professionals from around the world. Book your cabins before it’s too late! —and of course your family is welcome to come too!
You Need a Vacation
We all need a vacation! As health care providers to women in a very delicate time of their life, our lives as midwives can become quite stressed by keeping odd hours, working on very little sleep and food, and worrying about the health of our precious patients. Taking some time for relaxation and education can help us perform much better when we return to our lives of caring for expecting women.
Pool DeckChronic stress takes its toll in part on our body’s ability to resist infection, maintain vital functions, and even ability to avoid injury. When you’re stressed out and tired, you are more likely to become ill, your arteries take a beating, and you’re more likely to have an accident. Your sleep will suffer, you won’t digest your food as well, and even the genetic material in the cells of your body may start to become altered in a bad way. Mentally, not only do you become more irritable, depressed, and anxious, but your memory will become worse and you’ll make poorer decisions. You’ll also be less fun to be with!

So take a little time for yourself and join us for five glorious days! Nowhere else can you book a cruise on a lay-a-way payment plan! Put a little down now and pay a little as you go, by the time the cruise is ready to disembark you will be ready to go.

See you aboard,
